Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Watercannon?

The Watercannon is a portable swimming pool aerator. It takes your existing hot pool water and sprays it from one end of the pool to the other. When used nightly, this process of aeration cools the average pool 10-12 degrees.

GENERAL

Can I use the Watercannon during the day?

You will not get any additional cooling effect by running it during the day, but it should maintain your current water temperature. Please make sure you have consulted your local governing body regarding any daytime use. We do recommend that each facility be supervised when running the Watercannon.

Why is my pool water not cooling as fast as I expected?

Consistency is the key to cooling your pool water. You should run the Watercannon about 6-8 hours every night. Pool water temperature is also affected by outside air temperature, humidity, and geographical location.

Does the Watercannon work in all geographical areas?

Yes. The Watercannons are in use in 35 states and 5 different countries.

Is the Watercannon compatible with salt water pools?

Yes.

Can I use the Watercannon in a thunderstorm?

We would not advise you use the Watercannon in any adverse weather conditions.

Is Living Waters Aeration a new company?

We have been in the business of cooling pools since 1987.

Can I install the Watercannon myself?

Yes.  Once a licensed electrician has installed the necessary outlets, it’s just a matter of priming the pump and turning it on.

How do I choose the right model Watercannon?

Once you have given us a little information about your pool such as length, width and total gallons, we will choose the correct model for you based on size, pool location, and previous customer experiences.

Is the Watercannon loud?

It's as loud as an average pool pump. You will also hear the relaxing sound of the water splashing down at the other end of the pool.

Do I need to clean the Watercannon?

The Watercannon requires little maintenance. Check the pump’s strainer basket periodically and remove any debris. An occasional gentle wash with soapy water is usually all you need to keep it looking like new.

Where should I keep my Watercannon while not in use?

Please store the Watercannon some place where the pool management will have easy access. DO NOT store the Watercannon in any room where pool chemicals or oxidizers are stored. This will corrode some metal parts on the unit.

Should I winterize the Watercannon when I put it away after the swim season?

You should follow all of the steps in the pump owner’s manual regarding winterization.

WATER

Will I lose a lot of water due to evaporation?

Evaporation is minimal because of our high-volume, large droplet nozzles. The degree of water loss due to any evaporation is minimal compared to the many advantages gained in cooling your water.

Are the nozzles adjustable?

The nozzles are adjustable three ways: in and out (similar to a garden hose sprayer), left and right, and up and down.

Is there a danger of entrapment from the suction assembly?

We use three oversized VGB approved safety suctions on each Watercannon suction hose. Each suction cover is rated for 170 gallons per minute (GPM). In addition, the suction covers are attached in such a way that they could not all be blocked at once. We do recommend that each facility be supervised when running the Watercannon during the day.

What happens if I shut both nozzles off at the same time
when the Watercannon is running?

Each nozzle includes an internal baffle, eliminating any possibility of total shut off. The nozzles will each let some water through the outlet to avoid any kind of pressure build up in the pump.

ELECTRICAL

Is the Watercannon safe?

Each Watercannon is supplied with a ten gauge, waterproof electrical cord with a built in ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI). This GFCI will stop the power to the Watercannon in 25 milliseconds (mS). We do recommend that each facility be supervised when running the Watercannon during the day.

Do I need to hire an electrician?

The Watercannon 1.5 requires a dedicated 20 amp 120V circuit. The Watercannon 3 requires a dedicated 20 amp 220V circuit. If your pool does not have the dedicated circuits, they will have to be installed by a licensed electrician.

How much electricity will the Watercannon use per day?

The Watercannon 1.5 will cost $1.68 per day to run. The Watercannon 3 will cost $3.73 per day to run. These figures are calculated on a National average kilowatt hour price of $0.13.
